Epic Data Middleware Execution Engine (MXE) version 2.0 delivers maximum value to the manufacturing enterprise

may 28, 2008
Next generation application provides rapid development tools, industry standard services oriented architecture, industry standard ERP interfaces and mobile device management.

VANCOUVER, B.C.,— Epic Data International Inc. (TSX-V: EKD), a provider of data collection, material management and manufacturing visibility solutions, today announced its next generation MXE 2.0 data collection platform that optimizes shop floor data collection and application integration for discrete manufacturing enterprises. MXE 2.0 is used to build a wide array of data collection and data routing solutions which enhance manufacturing organizations' ability to manage and synchronize parts, people, processes, and products throughout the production cycle.

MXE 2.0 applications can be fully integrated with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and other manufacturing applications, and guarantees delivery of critical data between the enterprise systems and users on the shop floor. MXE 2.0 has and is currently being deployed to support applications in time, attendance, labor, production data, warehouse management, inventory management, asset management, quality data collection and transportation management.

MXE 2.0 is based on a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) thus allowing enterprises to connect virtually any data collection device to all leading database solutions and any legacy or off-the-shelf enterprise applications, including SAP, Oracle and Infor. In conjunction with enterprise manufacturing applications, MXE 2.0 routes order requests from an ERP to the shop floor and provide direction for the optimal movement of parts and sub-assemblies for the completion of finished goods.  MXE is deployed with many organizations around the world.

New key capabilities offered in MXE 2.0 include:

  • standardized connectors to major ERP and other manufacturing or custom applications
  • standardized connectors to hundreds of devices including the Epic Data MPT family of devices and the Motorola MC9090, MC70
  • designed for ISA 95 compliance
  • supports server clustering
  • support for web or thick clients
  •  remote access to devices for diagnostics and troubleshooting

"MXE 2.0 continues to be a leading solution for manufacturing organizations that require automated data collection to manage their shop floor and feed their enterprise manufacturing applications," said James Dodds, interim CEO, Epic Data. "Our commitment to ongoing development of MXE provides our customers with the ability to quickly evolve their complex manufacturing operations to meet the demand and requirements of the dynamic markets they serve," continued Dodds.
